Medical Toxicology Information Services

We operate within the Medical Toxicology Information Services (MTIS) of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

MTIS, formerly Guy’ Poisons Unit, was established in 1963 to provide 24 hour poisons information services.

Services to support clinical trials and product safety were developed over 20 years alongside the poisons service, making our expertise and 24 hour operation available to support clinical research.

eSMS Team

Enquiries come straight through to our team of information scientists. Consultant physicians are available to provide clinical advice on the treatment and management of patients.

The current team has worked together for over 6 years; some of us have worked for MTIS for over 20 years.

Our expertise includes:

  • Interacting with healthcare professionals at every level
  • Providing tailored, case specific responses and advice
  • Evaluating medical information and answering complex enquiries
  • Maintaining a constant 24 hour emergency service from a staffed, secure location

eSMS is independent of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Pharmacy Medicines Information Service and is a not-for-profit service operating within the NHS.
